Doug Golding is the 2007 recipient of the National Boating Educator of the Year Award.
Golding was recognized by the National Water Safety Congress at the International Boating and Water Safety Summit held in San Antonio, Texas for his lifelong contributions towards boating and water safety.

Classes
at Ohio State serve as primer for the outdoors
Recreational activities such as backpacking, rafting, scuba diving
are taught with a trip as final exam
So there was Justin Thompson,
in a raft on the frothy rapids of West Virginia’s New River, and his group’s
guide had just been thrown into the water.
"She got ejected from the boat as we were about to go through
two of the worst rapids," Thompson said of the April excursion.
But here’s the
key part of the story:
"Nobody freaked out," Thompson said. "We did the ‘Meat
Grinder’ and ‘Lollygag’ with no guide." (She
got to shore unharmed.)
He says that proudly,
and it’s likely
that Tim Hampton was pleased, as well. For the past 17 years,
Hampton has overseen the Outdoor Pursuits series of classes at
Ohio State.
The courses cover the spectrum of outdoor recreation,
from rafting to backpacking to scuba diving to windsurfing and
more. Students normally earn one credit for completion, but the
goal of the courses goes beyond that...
